Abstract
India faces a net deficit of 61.1, 21.9 and 64% green fodder, dry crop residues and feeds, respectively. The situation needs to be tackled by knowledge building of the farmers about the advantages and scientific production practices of growing forages. Therefore, a study was undertaken to assess the knowledge level of oat growers regarding oat production technology in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu. A total of 100 oat growers were selected as respondents for this study. A ‘knowledge index’ consisting of 13 dimensions was prepared to measure the knowledge level of the oat growers. The study revealed that the oat growers had poor knowledge about soil testing, land preparation, soil treatment and biofertiliser. Four variables, viz, information source utilisation, cosmopoliteness, attitude towards oats production technology and scientific orientation have high predictive value, as these account for 93% of the total variation in the knowledge level of oats growers regarding oat production technology.
