Abstract

Significant changes occurring in the insurance industry will impact higher education in the short and long term. In fact, you can expect more requests for information related to potential claims against colleges and universities, especially Title IX, new notice practices, and new exclusions and other restrictions in coverage — and even reduced capacity, according to Peter F. Lake, J.D., Director of the Center for Excellence in Higher Education Law and Policy at the Stetson University College of Law, where he also teaches insurance law. These changes come as colleges and universities must deal with mounting litigation and regulatory pressures, making insurance more of a necessity than ever before, he noted.
