Abstract

The definition of KNO scaling is reviewed in the context of the negative binomial distributions. It is shown that these distributions provide a natural description of observed violations of KNO scaling. The properties of the negative binomial distribution are then used to predict the correlations between photons and charged-particle production, and the forward-backward multiplicity correlations.
