Abstract

With this study conducted, it has been tried to determine the factors that are effective in adopting good agricultural practices (GAP) by examining individual and business characteristics of cherry producers in the province of Afyonkarahisar. The data collected by means of carrying out a survey study on 136 subjects who were chosen with stratified sampling method from between cherry producers in Afyonkarahisar Province in order to determine the factors that are effective in adopting the GAP were analyzed. Independent variables whose difference was found significant between the groups who perform or do not perform GAP were subjected to logistic regression analysis and their effects over adopting the decision of GAP performance were determined proportionally. According to model with 5 variables created as a result of the logistic regression analysis, probability of performing GAP for the ones whose share of cherry production is higher than %50 of their total income is 5.21 fold more than the ones whose share is less than %50; for the ones who have business building is 6.06 fold more than the ones who do not have; for the ones who are informed by means of exporters is 5.71 fold more than who are not informed; for the ones who choose formal information source as a fertilization information source is 2.09 fold more than the ones who do not choose. The research results show the importance of demands of market besides individual and management features in the process of ITU’s adoption. In this framework, in the activities intended for ITU’s becoming widespread, contractual agricultural model should be practised by considering the marketing situation and, also agricultural extension and consultation studies should be regarded.
