Abstract

Using PIMS, the reactions of CH{sub 2}OH + Br and CH{sub 2}OH + HI at 298-538 K are studied; their kinetic behavior being comparable to that of other polyatomic free radicals with HBr and HI. The CH{sub 2}OH heat of formation is also obtained and is much higher than anticipated, implying a stronger C-H bond energy than currently believed. 30 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs.
