Abstract
This paper discusses the reduction kinetics of PbO and Pb3Ca2Si3O11, the principal lead bearing phase of commercial “sinter,” by CO/CO2 gas mixtures. The kinetic and diffusional parameters were determined with the aid of the grain model. Reduction experiments were also conducted with a synthetic “sinter” comprising a mixture of Pb3 Ca2Si3O11 and Fe2O3, and commercial “sinter.” Results indicated that low reactivity in the upper reaches of a lead blast furnace is due to the presence of lead as the complex silicate and to the low porosity of the commercial material.
