Abstract
Summary.Survival curves were obtained for related haploid, diploid and tetraploid strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a pathogenic strain of Candida albicans and a nystatin‐resistant isolate of this strain, on exposure to a range of concentrations of nystatin. Susceptibility to nystatin decreased with increasing ploidy and was greater for Saccharomyces strains than for C. albicans strains. Death of cells was initially approximately logarithmic, but at certain concentrations some cells survived and cultures showed a subsequent growth phase.
