Abstract

The rate of oxidation of diethylene glycol in acidic medium, in presence of Ruthenium (III) chloride catalyst has been studied. With each of the reactant, the order of reaction has been determined and it is found that there is first order kinetics with respect to chloramines - T, ethylene glycol, Ru(III) and also first order with respect to medium, i.e., H+ Negligible effect of variation of ionic strength and there is no effect of addition of KCI and Para toluene sulphonamide (P.T.S.).
