Abstract

Oxygen adsorption and absorption at high positive potentials have been investigated. Reconstruction of the surface layer accompanying the formation of P(0 3 at E, > 1.7 V has been shown to be the first step in the growth of the platinum phase oxide via oxygen penetration into the platinum (oxygen absorption). The possibility of oxygen dissolution in the bulk of the platinum strongly depends on the state of the crystal lattice of the platinum surface layer.
