Abstract

The evolution of spiral waves in a two-dimensional excitable medium with nonuniform curvature is considered. Using an analytical approach based on approximate kinematical relations, we find that spiral waves drift at a rate proportional to the gradients of the Gaussian curvature of the surface. The theoretical predictions agree well with numerical simulations of the full reaction-diffusion equations.
