Abstract

Objective: To describe knowledge and attitudes towards e-cigarette among university students of National University of Civil Engineering in 2021 and associated factors. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2020 to May 2021 at National University of Civil Engineering. A total of 554 full-time undergraduate students were recruited for the study. Data was collected using a structured self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS 18.0 software. Results: The percentage of students with good knowledge and good attitude about e-cigarettes was 35.2% and 36.5%, respectively. Receiving information about tobacco harm prevention at the university (OR=1.6; 95%CI:1.1 – 2.3; p<0.05) and students' attitudes about e-cigarettes (OR=2.8; 95%CI: 2 – 4.2; p <0.001) were related to students' knowledge about about e-cigarettes. Conclusion: Students' knowledge and attitudes about e-cigarettes was inadequate. The study recommends strengthening tobacco harm prevention communication in National University of Civil Engineering so that students can have a good understanding of the dangers of e-cigarettes.
