Abstract

Objective: The study aims to describe the current situation and analyze some factors related to treatment adherence in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who are managed and treated in Cho Moi district, An Giang province in 2021. Research methods: By design of a descriptive cross-sectional study with analysis, using the whole sampling method with 216 participants, face-to-face interviews using pre-designed questionnaires, data analysis according to research objectives. The rate of patients with treatment adherence reached 47.2%. The factors that had a good influence on treatment adherence include as follows: the patient had good knowledge; the patient was supervised by family and relatives; the patient was supervised at home by medical staff; the patient was taken by their relatives for periodic re-examination and testing; the patient was satisfied with the supervision of medical staff; the patient had difficulty in accessing medical services. The Tuberculosis Prevention Program implements and maintains counseling and communication activities to improve patient knowledge. Health workers at the station increase supervision from 1 time per month to 4 times per month, improving their attitude towards patients. Patients should attend seminars on knowledge and practice understanding and properly implement the 6 principles of treatment. The patient's relatives need to coordinate with health workers in monitoring the implementation of treatment principles with the goal of helping the patient recover from the disease.
