Abstract

This study aims to describe how politeness is used in short story dialogues by Eti Nurhalimah's Lebaran in Overseas characters. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The study results show that politeness in the short stories of Lebaran in Overseas uses a variety of politeness maxims, namely the maxim of wisdom, the maxim of generosity, the maxim of humility, and the maxim of agreement. In addition, in this short story dialogue, there is a violation of the politeness maxim, namely the violation of the maxim of praise.
