Abstract

Fiber gyro making use of the Sagnac effect has been widely investigated.1,2 The optical passive ring-resonator gyro (OPRG) has also been studied for its potential to reduce the length of the sensing loop and to realize a wide dynamic range.3-5 It is necessary for the OPRG to use a higher coherence source to obtain a high-finesse ring resonator, while the fiber gyro requires a low coherence source. Then the behavior of noise in the OPRG is quite different from that in the fiber gyro. We have already studied the Rayleigh backscattering in the OPRG as a noise source and proposed a configuration to eliminate this noise.4,5
