Abstract
Abstract This chapter illustrates the importance of formal and informal roles within a community of practice. These roles, which range from planning community events to maintaining a community website, can help foster community participation and ensure that both individuals and organizations are making the most of their community investment. The chapter describes a study of communities in eighteen firms, which led to the identification of eleven formal and informal community roles.
