Abstract
This article discusses the global predominance of coal in electricity generating plants and the possible use of supercritical coal technologies to reduce emissions. Carbon dioxide emission is specifically examined and reduction methodologies including supercritical boilers, steam turbine modifications, carbon dioxide capture, amine scrubbing and oxyfuel firing are detailed. Also covered are government carbon dioxide emissions targets.
