Abstract

SUMMARYThree karyotypic variants of six of the eight recognized subspecies of the Desert Pocket Mouse, Perognathus penicillatus Woodhouse, are described. All variants have a diploid number of 46, so differences present are of a non-Robertsonian nature. The mechanisms and direction of chromosomal change, evolutionary history, geographic distribution, and systematic status of the variants are discussed.
