Abstract

SUMMARYThe karyotype of multimmate rats from Afgoi (Somali Democratic Republic) is studied.Their taxonomic assignment to the species Mastomys buberti (Wroughton, 1908) (Mammalia Rodentia) is confirmed by the existence of a 32 chromosome karyotype. By means of G-banding pattern analysis it has been possible to discuss their systematic affinity with other African multimammate rat species, particularly Mastomys natalensis (Smith, 1834).
