Abstract

One hundred years ago Karl Wilhelm Badeker, the discoverer of transparent conductive materials (TCM), transparent conductive oxides (TCO), and transparent semiconductors, died. On this occasion the conference Transparent Conductive Oxides –Fundamentals and Applications (TCO2014) was held at Universitat Leipzig. In this paper, Karl Badeker's life and death are retraced and the discoveries Badeker made in Leipzig are reviewed and put into perspective.
