Abstract
Sweet potato tubers are the second most important after the cassava because it has a high nutritional value, especially beta carotene and anthocyanins. This plant is expected to be one of the commodities alternative food choices to support the movement of food diversification. Lampung is one of the areas that have the potential for the development of Sweet potato, but until now the character of the local sweet potato Lampung not terdiskripsi well. To avoid duplication in collecting sweet potato varieties and to save important genes of potential, it is necessary to characterize the local sweet potato germplasm Lampung. The purpose of this study is to produce a description of some of the local sweet potato accessions Lampung, and produce genetic resources that can be used as a parent in order of creation and the development of improved varieties of sweet potato, especially high-yielding varieties of local Lampung. The results showed Lampung Local Clones LPG 06 and LPG 07 has a higher sugar content that is 11% and 11.33% and has orange flesh colored bulbs (rich inbeta carotene) which is the potential to be developed and become genetic resources in the development of high yielding varieties new. LPG 08 and LPG 11, are local clones ofLampung white and have a sugar content of 9 and 9.67%, higher than other white Lampung Local clones, but lower when compared with white clones Shiroyutaka which amounted to 10%. LPG 01 a clone Local Lampung have very orange tuber flesh color, but the sugar content is only 8.33%. LPG 03 a clone Local Lampung which has white tuber flesh surrounded by a ring of purple on the cortex. The purple color indicates the presence of anthocyanin-rich content of antioxidants, but the sugar content is relatively low at 7%.Keywords: Characterization, Germplasm, Sweet Potatoes.
