Abstract

This paper presents the design and measurement results of two Ka-band sub-harmonically pumped (SHP) mixers and a 12-14 GHz LO driver amplifier. These circuits are fabricated using discrete components mounted on a thin-film Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ substrate. The down-conversion SHP mixer shows 10 dB conversion loss from 27.35-28.35 GHz with an LO drive of 0 dBm at 13.2 GHz, while the up-conversion SHP mixer has 12 dB conversion loss from 31-31.3 GHz under a similar LO drive. The 12-14 GHz amplifier, demonstrating a small signal gain of 12 dB with an output 1-dB compression point of 16 dBm, serves as an LO drive of the SHP mixer.
