Abstract
Abstract The paper describes the different approaches to peace ethics in the consultations of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) since the 1980s and in the development and modifications of the concept of “just peace” in German debates on nuclear armament and the politics of deterrence. For a specifically Lutheran perspective, it then examines Luther’s understanding of peace and his distinction between political and ecclesial responsibility and sketches the re-interpretation in a recent LWF study document.
