Abstract

Juniperus chinensis has attained substantial attention as a biomedical material in folk remedies mainly due to its high efficient antibacterial property. To exploit this, a nanofiber composite was fabricated from poly(vinyl alcohol) and Juniperus chinensis extracts and characterized for antibacterial applications. The morphology and diameter of the nanofiber were affected by concentration of Juniperus chinensis extracts and it shows very smooth and regular nanofibers which confirmed by SEM. The Juniperus chinensis incorporated PVA nanofibers demonstrated excellent antibacterial property against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Loading Juniperus chinensis extracts to nanofiber is a novel attempt and it may be useful for biomedical applications such as wound dressing, antibacterial functional clothing materials and so on.
