Abstract
ZnO crystals with juniper leaf-like morphology were synthesized through simple one-step oxidation of Al–Zn mixture in air at atmospheric pressure. The juniper leaf-like ZnO crystals consisted of a (leaf stalk-like) main trunk and (leaf blade-like) many branches, which was similar to the shape of a juniper leaf. The trunk was several tens of micrometers in length and about 1.2 μm in thickness. The length and the thickness of the branches were several tens of micrometers and about 500 nm, respectively. The juniper leaf-like ZnO crystals exhibited a sharp visible emission.
