Abstract

This article presents an exploratory study on the use of WhatsApp by Senegalese journalists in times of crisis. The aim is to find out what types of stories (contents & formats) they favour, and also to verify whether these statuses constitute new media genres. The study is based on a qualitative and "manual" observation of the statuses (stories) shared by journalists during the fatal accident in Sikilo. The results show that WhatsApp has become a new space for infomediation, comment and visibility.
