Abstract

The results of experimental examinations of optical fibers sections which were exposed to longitudinal stretching loadings or changes of temperature, by means of usual (OTDR - optical time-domain reflectometer) and Brillouin optical pulse reflectometers (BOTDR - Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometer) are presented in this work. OTDR-graphs of “problem” sections of optical fibers and BOTDR-graphs (3D-reflectogrammas and optical fiber strain dependence) for heated and for cooled sections of optical fibers are shown. Results of tests confirmed advantage of the Brillouin reflectometry method for early diagnostics and detection of “problem” sections of fiber-optical communication lines.
