Abstract

Refractory materials are chemically stable at high temperatures and typically have low coefficients of thermal expansion. Joining by SHS is a high-energy density method for welding the refractory and dissimilar materials. It has been demonstrated that a variety of refractory (graphite, Mo, W) and dissimilar (e.g., SiC-Al) materials can be joined by the combustion-based reactive resistive welding method.
