Abstract
John Osborne joined the movement pioneered by General Baptist Samuel Oates in Rutland from 1647. He is probably the author of a pamphlet against the use of compulsory tithes to support the parish ministers, and despite his age he was imprisoned for this opposition after the Restoration in 1660, dying in gaol in Oakham.
