Abstract

As part of its observance of the Septuagenary of E. M. Jellinek in I960, the Quarterly Journal of Studies on Alcohol is publishing a series of reprints of his writings illustrating his varied contributions to both knowledge and thinking in the field of alcohol studies. This third reprint in the series is extracted from a larger work, originally published in this Journal (Vol. 8, No. 1, pp. 1–42, June 1947) and then as a separatum (New Haven, Hillhouse Press, 1947), both under the title, “Recent trends in alcoholism and in alcohol consumption.” Details of the Jellinek Jubilee observance were announced in the March issue (pp. 1–4) of the present volume of this Journal.
