Abstract

Today’s volleyball is characterized by a large change of volleyball game situations and intensity. Players must be able to perform and effectively apply many technical elements. The well-developed technical skills help to reach the main goal of the game – to achieve victory. In Lithuania there is a lack of works that analyzes initial technical training and the quality of the performance of the volleyball players. In the initial stage of the volleyball players’ trainings technical training is a major part of sport training, which raises the actual problem of how to evaluate the level of initial technical actions and on what depends the quality of ball controlling actions of 10–11 years old volleyball players. The purpose of the research is to evaluate the quality of the volleyball players’ technical action performance. During the research there was analyzed ball controlling actions performance of two sports schools (E1 and E2) 10–11 years old volleyball players (n = 52) and to highlight the specifics of the volleyball players training some oral interviews with coaches (n = 2) were made. Technical actions quality research was made based on the recommendations of Schmidt (2015), who provided criteria and evaluation for the technical ball controlling actions performance. In Lithuania volleyball players’ technical actions performance research is made for the first time. Experts (coach of each group and author of article) analyzed and evaluated four technical actions: the upper linear serve, the lower linear serve, setting from the top and setting from the bottom. Each action is divided into five stages of monitoring, which were evaluated from 1 to 10 points. All the actions of the volleyball players were performed twice, but only higher score is recorded. Actions were performed in the mini-volleyball court. The arithmetic mean of the obtained indices (x¯), their standard deviation (S x¯) and the significance of the difference between the meanings (p) were calculated. Research results. After analyzing the annual plans of sports schools and interpreting oral interviews with the coaches, it turned out that at the initial stage of the training the coaches allocate a similar number of hours for technical, tactical, general physical and special training. For technical training, the maximum time is allocated: E1 – 40.38%, and E2 – 48.97% of total training time. During the training, similar exercises are used for the improvement of the technique: the ball setting with both hands from the top, the ball setting with both hands from the bottom, the upper linear serve and the lower linear serve are taught. In evaluation of the quality of the upper linear serve, the average of all phases in the E1 group was 6.48, E2 – 6.65 points. In the evaluation of the quality of the lower linear serve, it was found that the average of all phases in the E1 group was 6.92, E2 – 7.31 points. Evaluating the quality of the ball setting from the top, it was found that the average of all phases in the E1 group was 6.93, E2 – 7.04 points. In evaluation of the quality of the performance of the ball setting from the bottom, it was found that the average of all phases in the E1 group was 6.56, E2 – 6.73 points. All differences between groups are statistically insignificant (p > 0.05). Conclusions. Comparing the quality of ball control techniques between two sports school students, it was found that the quality of the volleyball player’s ball control actions performing setting from the top, setting from the bottom, the linear upper and the linear bottom balls serves are similar, so the obtained results differ slightly, the differences are statistically insignificant.
