Abstract

The 'exchange' correction term l of the f-sum of nuclei is calculated within the framework of the Jastrow variational approach. A nonmonotonic correlation function which allows 'overshoot' is used. Thus any degree of positive correlation, such as might naturally be expected from the attractive part of the potential, is also included. The results obtained are in fair agreement with the 'experimentally pleasing' value of l.
