Abstract
O ensaio reflete sobre a constituição do narrador e das personagens em Grande sertão: veredas a partir da invenção rosiana do "mundo-jagunço", entre mito e História. Para tanto, concentra-se na formação fictícia do jagunço no livro, cuja base verossímil se localiza ao mesmo tempo nas dificuldades da vida sertaneja e na idealização das possibilidades de reagir a elas. Propõe-se por fim a compreender a lei formal dessa (de)formação - não ser ou ser mito - em contraste com a figura histórica do "homem livre pobre", e a interpretar a leitura rosiana da modernidade brasileira no sertão.
