Abstract
Water lubrication, which uses water as lubricating fluid, has many advantages such as cost, environment, high thermal conductivity, and so on. However water has low lubricating property for steel materials. In this study, tribological property of nanodiamond, which is a few nanometer size diamond, as a water-based lubricant additive has been investigated between SUS304 ball -SUS304 plate and sintered tungsten carbide (WC) ball - SUS304 plate. It has found that adding nanodiamond in water can notably improve the water lubrication property such as the very low friction coefficient for the WC ball-SUS304 plate friction and low wear on the WC ball. However, friction forces and wears for the SUS304 ball-SUS304 plate was increased by adding nanodiamond.
