Abstract

This study examines the effects of the Steer-By-Wire (SBW) technology on lane-keeping performance of motorcycles by examining computer simulation using multibody-dynamics model. The rider control model which calculates the desired rolling angle based on the lateral deviation at the look-ahead point is assumed to represent rider's maneuver. The lane keeping performance is evaluated by the rider-in-the-loop system consisting of the motorcycle, the SBW controller, and the rider control model. The SBW technology improves the lane keeping performance of motorcycles in comparison with the conventional motorcycles.
