Abstract

Social crises have always faced the human population with numerous challenges. The epidemic of the corona virus - an infectious disease, marked by the Latin name "Covid19", tested journalism in terms of professionalism, at the local and global level. Given that in our country the Government of the Republic of Serbia is the holder of executive power, there were rightly expectations that citizens would be informed on this topic in a timely, precise and accurate manner. On the portal of this institution, in chronological order, 2,320 announcements concerning the corona during the last two and a half years have been archived. The paper established the way in which the official portal informed the public about the Covid19 epidemic compared to other portals used by the media in the period from the introduction to the lifting of the first state of emergency, more precisely from March 15 to May 11, 2020, on a sample of 150 posts. The research determined the number and form of information published on the portal of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and determined their correlation in accordance with the general and specific goals of this paper. Apart from the presented results on the sample taken, given that it is a time-limited sample period, the question remains: "How well did the presented announcements fit with the actual events and situations on the ground during the pandemic period, and whether the published information was in collision with the actual number of sick and dead?", so the role of the media in this respect opens up space for future research.
