Abstract
Latin American nations need to reassess their nuclear policies and preparedness. The ongoing war in Ukraine highlights the global risk of nuclear escalation, exacerbated by the proliferation of nuclear weapons and the vulnerability of civilian populations. Latin America possesses nuclear power plants, making it vulnerable to accidents or attacks. It is used the NUKEMAP simulator to illustrate the devastating consequences of a nuclear attack.. It is emphasized the region's lack of comprehensive nuclear safety regulations and preparedness plans, urging governments to collaborate and develop effective emergency strategies. The current institutional framework is deemed inadequate, highlighting the need for stronger regulations and international cooperation.
