ABSTRACT This study discusses the current state of IT industry in Russia by reviewing its strengths and weaknesses, basic statistical data, and main factors influencing its current and future potential development. Authors are discussing peculiarities of Russian business environment and the quality of IT education and labor market in Russia. IT development in Russia is considered in the broader context of national economic development as the authors debating the potential role of IT industry in modernizing Russian economy and Russian society.
