IT Challenges for 2009: Fixing the IT Infrastructure

Abstract

With a new administration in Washington, we need to focus attention on the nation's information technology infrastructure if we want to remain competitive in the global economy. Specifically, we need to extend our broadband network, implement a national health information network, build a new air traffic control system, create a "smart" electrical grid, and fix the Food and Drug Administration's monitoring system. We also need to increase our investment in research and technical education. A public/private partnership will be required to accomplish all this.
