In the introductory sections, some basic principles underlying the classification of relevant literature are outlined. After that, some of the main features of the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC), relevant for the classification of historically themed literature for children are discussed. This completes the introductory part of the paper and addresses the main issues related to the classification of historical literature, with emphasis on the processing of books in the field of history for children. By pointing to characteristic examples, an attempt has been made to show the complexity of subject and professional classification in this particular field. This way of classification of these books is making history, both the national and general, more accessible and closer to children. All the examples in this paper are from the practice of the National library of Serbia and are taken from the COBISS.SR database.
