Abstract
ABSTRACTInfants' dermal exposures to environmental contaminants are expected to be different and, in many cases, much higher than adults. Because of the potential importance of the dermal exposure route, there is currently a significant amount of work being conducted to reduce the uncertainties associated with assessing infants' dermal exposures. A conceptual model of dermal exposure is presented and issues associated with characterizing and assessing these exposures presented. Physiological and behavioral characteristics of infants that impact dermal exposure as well as exposure measurement and assessment approaches are discussed.
