Abstract
The bull-head torrent catfish Liobagrus obesus (family Amblycipitidae) is an endangered freshwater fish in Korea. There has been a rapid decline in its population, caused by anthropogenic activities. This may also lead to reduced genetic diversity, which can significantly affect survival. Thus, molecular markers are important to assess the level of genetic variation. We developed 12 microsatellite markers that yielded an average of 7.83 alleles per locus. The average observed and expected heterozygosities were 0.663 and 0.699, respectively. This study is valuable for protecting the endangered species L. obesus; investigations of genetic diversity and population structure will provide useful information for conservation measures.
