Abstract

Samples of YBa2Cu3Ox were prepared by solid state reaction and characterized by resistivity and magnetic measurements, x-ray diffraction, and electron microprobe analysis. The oxygen pressure was measured directly as function of temperature under isochoric conditions with minimized free volume. DTA and in situ x-ray analysis with a high temperature Guinier camera were carried out under the same conditions. H2O, N2 and Co2 were detected as contaminants by mass spectrometry. AT high temperatures the results obtained from the direct measurements agree well with those deduced from isobaric measurements. At low temperatures and pressures the latter yield substantially lower values. This might be due to incomplete equilibration.
