Abstract
The research investigated understanding in the organisations of Alipurduar, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Malda, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur District of West Bengal regarding ISO 9001 based Quality Management System (QMS). The QMS is essential for organisations to compete in the local, national and international market. The study depicts the result of the research carried out on fifty-five non-certified sample of organisations about awareness level of QMS. The questionnaire sent to the organisations and interviews carried out too, sometimes. The different organisations like manufacturer, tea industry, exporter, warehouses, Agro-industries, healthcare etc. took part in the study. They were mostly operating in local and national markets. Most of the respondents preferred ISO 9001 based QMS but also showed interest in certifications like Food Safety Management System, HACCP, Trustea, etc. The organisations were aware of the quality management system standard; they implicit that implementing QMS improves the internal processes and help in promotional activities of the organisation. The study summarizes the opinion of the respondents regarding QMS and the benefits it may bring to the organisation.
