Abstract
The Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) is the oldest and the only national Islamic medical organization in North America that consists primarily of physicians. IMANA has been very active in the development and promotion of Islamic bioethics through its conventions and publications. IMANA’s mission revolves around providing a forum and resource for Muslim physicians and other healthcare professionals while promoting a greater awareness of Islamic medical ethics and values. Thus, Islamic medicine has been a central topic of IMANA’s discussions both in conferences and in the pages of JIMA (Journal of IMA). Numerous IMANA members have addressed modern medical therapies from an Islamic point of view, such as seeking treatment and end-of-life issues.
