Abstract

Asia, and India in particular, witnessed the highest rate of economic growth globally. However, there is an issue of economic and social concern: gender balance of poverty. Based on the empirical evidence, the paper analysis the design and impact of development aid provided by international donors on the gender situation in rural areas in India and partly of other parts of Asia. In conclusion, the women-situation type of conditionality was contained in 20 percent of the projects under scrutiny. The positive impact was detected in 22 out of 28 projects having such a conditionality.
