Abstract
Recent comments on the transferability of angular overlap parameters and a criticism of the practice of setting eδ≈ 0 are discussed, and arguments in favour of eδ≈ 0 are presented. It is emphasised that the angular overlap model is a sub-division of ligand-field theory, qualitatively distinct from molecular-orbital theory.
