Abstract

EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER No; they seem to be about the same. Both intravenous (IV) levetiracetam (25 mg/kg) and phenytoin (20 mg/kg) have similar clinical efficacy as second-line treatment for status epilepticus after initial treatment with an IV benzodiazepine (SOR: B, 1 RCT and meta-analysis of prospective and retrospective cohort studies).
