Abstract
EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER Levetiracetam is as effective, but not more effective, than carbamazepine for monotherapy in patients with newly diagnosed focal or generalized epilepsy followed for up to 12 months. Similarly, the withdrawal rates for adverse events are not significantly different between the 2 treatments (SOR: A, 2 consistent RCTs).
