Abstract

New figures suggest that China has a large number of coal power projects in the pipeline - many inherited from previous over-approving - that could jeopardise climate-change goals. China might be U-turning back towards dirty coal-fired power. Results of a new study found that the country has restarted construction on more than 50GW of suspended coal-fired power plants: as much as the entire coal fleet of Africa and the Middle East.
