Abstract

The use of irrigation as the primary disposal method becomes more difficult as the salinity and TDS of the feedwaters increase beyond the freshwater levels. Crop tolerances to specific ions become of greater concern. Blending with suitable irrigation water supplies is a means of decreasing the applied salinity and TDS concentrations. The use of membrane softening concentrate as an irrigation supply appears feasible for the City of Fort Myers, based on generalized irrigation guidelines and applicable state water quality criteria.
